Joseph Frueh was an American cartoonist, illustrator, and artist, renowned for his work in the field of graphic arts and illustration. He studied at the Art Students League of New York, where he honed his artistic skills, gaining recognition for his contributions to newspapers and magazines of the time, such as Vanity Fair and The New Yorker. His illustrations were typically satirical and sharply incisive, blending humor and critique of social, political, and cultural themes.

This model is inspired by his famous 3D letter from 1913, created by the artist for his wife Juliette Fanciulli. The letter unfolded into a model mimicking the layout of an art gallery that the woman was about to visit shortly, allowing her to familiarize herself with the exhibition spaces.
